General Medicine
The compassionate team of doctors and staff at Goliad Animal Clinic is here to provide complete health care for your pet. That means that we will help your healthy pets stay well, and we will help diagnose and treat your sick pets so that they can return to a healthy condition as quickly as possible.
Sick Visits
When you bring your pet in for a sick visit, our experienced veterinarians will complete a full examination and discuss what the possible causes are for the patient’s symptoms. Based on the list of possible diagnoses, we will outline a plan for diagnostic tests, treatment, or both. We will go over all medications, potential side effects, schedule follow-up care if needed, and will answer any questions that you may have. Goliad Animal Clinic houses an on-site pharmacy for your convenience so that you can pick up your pet’s prescription without making another stop.
Wellness
To achieve a healthy, happy lifestyle for your pet, we recommend annual check-ups and consistent preventative care. It is always better for your pet’s health, and more economical for you, to prevent complications from progressive disorders, parasites, and infectious diseases before they get established.
During annual examinations, we will explain potential health issues that your pet may face depending on the species, breed, stage of life, current health condition, environmental conditions, habitat, and so forth. Based on these factors, we will develop preventive protocols for your pet regarding the best ways to control fleas and ticks in your house, your yard, and on your pet.
We also provide guidance for your pet’s nutritional needs for each life stage, including dietary requirements for growth, performance, and to maintain a healthy body weight or achieve weight loss for obese pets. We can recommend prescription diets to help pets manage numerous health issues as well.
Additionally, our veterinarians can spay or neuter your pet at the appropriate age. This is not just to prevent unwanted litters, but to lessen the development of cancer in both genders of dogs and cats.
Puppies and Kittens
Because the immune systems of puppies and kittens are not fully developed, they are susceptible to common diseases and viruses. At Goliad Animal Clinic, we check for parasites, provide vaccinations, and start pets on flea, tick, and heartworm prevention treatments. It is best to limit exposure to other dogs, cats, public parks, pet stores, playgrounds, and shared litter boxes until your puppy or kitten is completely vaccinated.
Adults
For adult pets, we continue vaccinations, parasite control, and health screenings for heartworm and tick borne diseases in addition to routine lab profiles. Having a consistent record of blood work helps us to watch for changes and patterns indicating the onset of disease.
Seniors
By the time most companion animals reach the age of seven, they are already considered to be a “senior citizen.” As animals age, their bodies change, and their health care needs subsequently evolve. Things tend to wear out and break down. It is important that we treat our senior pets with extra care and attention to help extend those later years and improve their quality as much as possible. Our senior health care services are designed to keep your aging loved one as happy, healthy and fit for as many years as possible. Focus is placed on health screenings utilizing diagnostic lab work and ultrasound, multimodal approaches to control pain associated with arthritis and other age-related issues, disease management, and dental care.
Whether you’re in need of a checkup, diagnostic services and treatment for a sick pet, or preventative care to keep your pet healthy, the team at Goliad Animal Clinic is committed to providing personal attention to the unique concerns of every pet owner. Our service area includes Goliad, Refugio, Woodsboro, Cuero, Yorktown, Victoria and surrounding communities.
